Everyone has been or will be touched by the pain of sickness and death among family and friends. This song is about sitting at that person’s bedside and fighting through the helplessness you feel in those kinds of situations. Lyle lost his mom to cancer in 2008 and doesn’t expect that wound to ever fully heal. The song started out a slightly silly homage to the video game concept of ‘health potions’ that a character can chug and get back in the battle quick and fully healed up. It ends up tugging on your heart strings anyway. Lyle has trouble getting through it even with the silly allusion to video gaming. Geek tears.
